A Brooklyn man is facing charges for stealing a car, leading police on a chase and crashing into the Hudson River.

It started Monday around 9 p.m. in Edgewater. Police say they attempted to stop the suspect identified as 26-year-old Jean Severe after they received a report of a stolen white 2012 Volvo at Veteran's Field.

Police say the suspect was spotted several times on the Palisades Interstate Parkway before eventually crashing into the water at the Englewood Boat Basin. They say the vehicle came to rest in the Hudson River and Severe was arrested.

Severe was charged with motor vehicle theft and eluding. He is being held at the Bergen County Jail pending a first court appearance.
