Renovations are underway at
Garfield High School to replace one of its gym floors after tests revealed
elevated levels of mercury.
The bleachers in the old gym
were removed. Work is now being done to put down a new hard rubber floor.
"We were not prepared for this, and because of the health and
safety issue, we were able to utilize some of the money for the remediation and
correction,” says Dr. Giovanni Cusmano, with Garfield Public Schools.
The gym will be done before
kids come back to school in the fall.
The bleachers are expected to be fully installed by the end of
September.
