Developers of the Meadowlands Xanadu complex are working with East Rutherford police to ensure the new facility is safe when it finally opens.
Thousands are expected to visit the Xanadu Entertainment Complex when it opens in August 2009. Police Chief Larry Minda is getting his officers ready for the tremendous task of keeping Xanadu safe.
Eight new officers are entering the police academy come January in order to help Minda?s squad of 33. The East Rutherford Police Department will also have a substation on site at Xanadu to give officers an on-site base of operations.
?It?s a tall order unless you break it down, piece by piece,? says Minda.
Officers have already started working with state police and stadium security to police football games, and Minda says teamwork is paying off.
?It?s become more of a proactive operation,? he says. ?We?ve cut down on the number of summons that we issue. We?ve seen a decrease in the number of accidents out there, and I think it?s because everyone?s worked so well together.?
