An Eagle Scout honored
boxing legend Joe Louis with a volunteer memorial cleanup project.
Gaetano Allegri
paid tribute to Louis at the Pompton Lakes park bearing the boxer's
name.
Over
the last two years, Allegri has recruited over 100 volunteers to
donate more than 950 hours to beautify the Joe Louis Memorial.
Allegri wanted to preserve the Brown Bomber's legacy as a fighter inside
and outside of the ring.
"It was my idea to want to try to honor Joe Louis by giving back
since he gave so much to the community," says Allegri.
Allegri raised over $9,000
in materials and services.
Now the area has new benches, blooming flowers and budding trees.
