The driver of a GMC Yukon is recovering after crashing the vehicle into the side of a Nutley home.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Lakeside Drive off Passaic Avenue in Nutley Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities say that they believe the driver suffered some type of medical emergency. Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that the driver appeared to speed up and crash directly into the brick home.
“There are no skid marks or nothing, so this guy didn’t stop at all,” says neighbor Gennaro Lombardi.
“We were all pretty concerned about if anyone was in the home and the shape of the driver,” says neighbor Victoria McMullen.
Luckily no one was home at the time of the crash. But homeowner Andrea Stuiso says that the vehicle crashed into the sunroom that she often sits in during the day.
"Thank god I was working late. Or I would've been in that room and I would've been dead,” she says.
The driver was seen wearing a UPS uniform. Firefighters removed him from the SUV through the back and he was taken to a local hospital.
Stuiso and her husband will be staying with friends while the structural integrity of the home is checked out.
The driver’s name was not released. He is said to be in stable condition.
