Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other officials helped cut the ribbon Wednesday on LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B – a major piece of construction that he says many believed could not happen.
“Don’t tell me we can’t. We can. And we are,” the governor said.
Gov. Cuomo also said that he is ready to sign legislation passed by lawmakers that would repeal a decades-old law that has kept officers’ disciplinary records secret.
Past efforts to repeal it has failed in recent years but the measure received new backing amid the national uproar over the death of George Floyd.
The state law was passed in the 1970s to prevent criminal defense attorneys from subjecting officers to harassing cross-examinations about irrelevant information in their personnel file. The state’s Democrat-led legislature passed the repeal Tuesday.
