The Bronx District Attorney?s office has made it easier for domestic violence victims to seek help from their abusers.
Plush couches and offices with a view are part of the new floor at the Crime Victims Assistance Unit?s satellite office on White Plains Road. The director of the unit says the renovations are to make victims seeking help more comfortable. Officials hope the newly-decorated offices will attract victims who are afraid of taking their first step toward help.
According to the director, there is no pressure on the victims to file police reports or a case with the district attorney. Staff members say when people come to the office, they will meet with an advocate and then a therapist. The office will soon be hiring counselors to work after hours.
