Dogs have now been banned from one of the Jersey Shore's most popular beaches.
Beginning Memorial Day and lasting through Labor Day, dogs will not be allowed at the Fisherman's Cove Conservation Area in Manasquan between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Monmouth County officials say they made the change so more people could enjoy the beach.
However, pet owners are upset about the change, and have started an online petition to get it reconsidered.
"It's a public space and for 40 years everybody's been enjoying it," says Dean Guida, a Manasquan resident. "There's not many dogs parks in the state and it's a disservice to the community."
The beach is operated by the Monmouth County Park system.
