Since the coronavirus pandemic began, doctors and nurses have been looking for ways to reduce the stress. One emergency room doctor used yoga pants to help dramatically reduce the tension.
Slowly but surely, co-workers at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset started noticing Dr. Marc Milano in his yoga pants over his scrubs.
"Being chairman of the Emergency Department I think people were a little bit shocked to see I was walking around in these brightly colored pants...I'm a fairly conservative guy, so for me to have done that, it was like people were wondering if it was OK to even laugh. But once I sort of encouraged them...it literally cut the tension like a knife. There was just chuckling and laughter and like I said the mood of this place was elevated instantaneously," said Miliano.
Milano has since created the hashtag Pants The Virus as a way to promote the idea to other hospitals.
RWJ Somerset now has an Hawaiian Shirt Day scheduled for Friday.
