Students at the Dionne Warwick Institute in East Orange participated in a nationwide mock presidential election.
The students voted for the presidential candidate they liked best as part of the "Every Kid Votes" election.
Dionne Warwick Institute principal Flore-Nadeige Lovett says the experience is important for her students.
"It's critical for them to experience and understand what their right is as citizens," she says. "We want them to learn that this is part of why they learn about social studies and about what's happening in our world and they have the power to contribute to changes and how their lives are affected."
About 20,000 elementary schools around the country participated in the program.
The "Every Kid Votes" has correctly predicted the results of the true presidential election for the past three presidential elections.
