New Jersey's Olympic hero is back in the Garden State after his gold medal winning golden goal against Canada.
Jack Hughes returns to Newark for the Devils' game against the Buffalo Sabres following a whirlwind celebration tour that included a stop at the Oval Office and an appearance at the State of the Union speech on Tuesday.
"I want to thank you on what a special job you did, what special champions you are," President Donald Trump told the members of Team USA in attendance.
Hughes' Devils teammates were also impressed by their alternate captain's heroics at the Milan-Cortino games.
"For Jack to score that goal, I think that's incredible. He must have had a couple of exciting days for sure," said Devils center Timo Meier.
"I jumped off the chair pretty quickly when it happened. Just thrilled for him. Like I said, it's been a whirlwind for that team ever since," said Devils coach Sheldon Keefe.
