Defense calls teen's deadly shooting in Atlantic City accidental
(AP) - An attorney representing a man charged in the shooting death of a teenage girl at an Atlantic City home last month says the shooting was accidental.
The Press of Atlantic City reports that defense attorney Alex Settle says 18-year-old Nahquil Lovest was playing with what he thought was an unloaded gun that he pointed at 15-year-old Naimah Bell and pulled the trigger.
Settle says his client cooperated with police after the July 25 shooting and told them he believed he had removed all of the bullets from the weapon.
Prosecutors argued that Lovest knew how many shells were in the gun.
A judge ruled Wednesday that Lovest will remain jailed until his trial, citing his "very extensive and violent" juvenile record and calling him "a palpable danger to public safety."
