A vote to decide the fate of a Jackson Township middle school has been postponed to a later date.

School officials were expected to vote on the closure of Goetz Middle School at a meeting Wednesday night. However, the district decided that it needed more time, so the final vote was pushed to the next school board meeting on Feb. 19.

School officials were also set to decide if Jackson Memorial High School would become a middle school, leaving the newer Jackson Liberty as the only high school.

“I think they should make the decision today like they were supposed to, but I guess we'll have to wait and see,” says high school student Chloe Torres.

“The Liberty School was built many years ago and they were going to build with the intention to have a second floor. So, they still have that option,” says grandparent Angel Jusino.

School Superintendent Nicole Pormilli says the reason for the possible closure and redistricting is because the district has lost more than half of its state aid. She says enrollment has also dropped more than 15%.
