Seton Hall University and Hackensack University Health Network have signed an agreement to form New Jersey's only private medical school.
They had signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this year.
They say they will launch a fundraising effort and will seek money from the state.
Plans call the school to be located at the former Hoffmann-La Roche site in Nutley and Clifton.
Seton Hall plans to locate its College of Nursing and School of Health and Medical Sciences with the new school of medicine.

Hackensack's hospitals would serve as the primary clinical teaching sites.
