A day of service is being held at Bridgeport's Total Mortgage Arena on Thursday, marking the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Over 400 volunteers from around the state will be packing 145,000 non-perishable meals, which Connecticut Foodshare will then donate and distribute to local families in need.

This is part of a national program which started in 2002 but has never been held in Connecticut until this year.

Across the country, 24 other cities will be hosting similar events, putting together over 9 million meals.
