Cyclist sues Jersey City councilwoman for damages following hit-and-run crash caught on camera

The civil suit against Councilwoman Amy DeGise is being brought by Andrew Black, who’s the cyclist involved.

A lawsuit is being brought against a Jersey City councilwoman, and the city itself, after she hit a cyclist with her car last summer.
The civil suit against Councilwoman Amy DeGise is being brought by Andrew Black, who’s the cyclist involved.
The incident was captured in a dramatic video that was viewed by many.
DeGise was driving in Jersey City along MLK Drive when her vehicle struck Black, who is a delivery driver. She admitted in court that she did not stop after the collision.
DeGise guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and had her license suspended for a year. She also had to pay a fine as part of her plea.
According to court papers, Black sustained “serious and permanent injuries.” He’s suing for damages and attorney fees.
News 12 reached out to DeGise and the city for comment.
Earlier this year, DeGise issued a statement following a hearing. She wrote in part, "I want to offer my heartfelt apology to Andrew Black, and I am thankful that he was not hurt. I also want to apologize to the people of Jersey City for not only my actions, but for the negative attention they brought to our wonderful community."
