Threats of cutbacks at Paterson Public Schools has parents frustrated and angry.
With state funding at a standstill for the next two years, Paterson administrators fear they may have no choice but to eliminate expenses. A board of education report obtained by News 12 New Jersey shows a contingency plan to consolidate schools and eliminate jobs. Jobs on the chopping block include 70 instructional aide positions, school nurses, custodians, secretaries and teachers.
The cuts are at this point only a recommendation and not definite.
"The school system is failing the kids, and it's very sad," says Donald Whitaker, father of five.
