Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced Friday that the crown of the Statue of Liberty will be reopened on July 4.
Gov. Jon Corzine and members of the New Jersey congressional delegation were with the secretary as he made the announcement.
Salazar announced that there will be limitations while visiting the crown. According to officials, the crown is limited to 30 visitors per hour, which equals 50,000 per year.
Officials say the crown will be open for two years and then may be temporarily closed again for construction.
In addition to the announcement about the crown, officials announced that part of the government stimulus funding will go toward refurbishing the New Jersey side of Ellis Island.
