The sounds of bagpipes and drums filled the air Sunday as marchers stepped off in the 47th annual Belmar-Lake Como St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Tens of thousands of people were in attendance as the parade started at Main Street and extended to Three Acre Park.
Children at the event said their favorite part of the event is getting candy. Others say it's the sense of community that makes it special.
"Every time I'm here it's a blast and I think because everyone is coming together for St. Patrick's Day," says Alexa Lavere of Byram Township. "Everyone has that extra little boost of excitement."
Gov. Phil Murphy and his wife made an appearance at the parade, decked out in festive attire.
Extra NJ Transit trains were operating to help get everyone to and from the event safely.
