Brazen thieves stole an ATM in Cranford and led police on a chase early Wednesday morning.
Cranford police say the suspects stole the machine from the TD Bank branch on East South Avenue at around 4 a.m. The thieves allegedly smashed through the entrance of the bank in a pickup truck and put the ATM on the back.
When police arrived, the suspects sped off.
"Our officers attempted to stop the car," says Cranford Police Chief James Wozniak. "A pursuit was initiated, but it was terminated at approximately the Union Toll Plaza due to the weather conditions."
Chief Wozniak says two vehicles were used in the crime. He says the pickup used was stolen. Another car was used as a getaway vehicle.
The stolen pickup and the ATM were found a short time later. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Cranford police.
