Crews search Point Pleasant Beach waters for missing swimmer
Crews still have not found a swimmer who went missing after a frantic search in the waters of Point Pleasant Beach Sunday.
Police say they received a distress call around 2:15 a.m. about a female swimmer in the water.
The rescue effort involved local and state police, as well as the Coast Guard.
Point Pleasant Beach police have identified the woman as Zuzana Oravcova.
News 12 is told the 24-year-old woman is an employee at Jenkinson's Pier, located on the beach's boardwalk.
A source says she is from Slovakia and a summer employee. She was reportedly swimming with a friend at the time of the incident.
"A lot of people don't realize and respect that ocean. The tide and the current can be strong. I was born and raised in the shore here and I know how to swim in the ocean," says resident Fred Driscoll.
