A search is underway for kitesurfer who went missing off the New Jersey coast.

Officials say that crews with the U.S. Coast Guard and the New Jersey State Police are searching off the coast of Sandy Hook in the Raritan Bay.

The kitesurfer apparently became tangled with a nearby motorboat and went under the water, but never came back to the surface.

The surfer went missing around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
