A crash into a McDonald's in Bergen County left one employee injured and a man facing charges.
The incident occurred at the McDonald's location on River Street in Hackensack, causing significant damage to the building.
According to the chief of police, a motor vehicle crash occurred, resulting in a 2025 Dodge Ram pickup striking the McDonald's building around 3 a.m. A 21-year-old employee was injured in the crash and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A supervisor at the McDonald's location confirmed that the employee is OK and was hit on the other side of the wall. The store has begun repairs to patch the hole from the outside, with additional work needed on the interior.
The police investigation led to the arrest of a man from Teaneck, New Jersey, who was charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by auto in the fourth degree.
Due to a gas leak and damage to the building, the McDonald's location has been deemed unsafe for occupation and will remain closed until further notice.
People passed by on Tuesday morning to see the damage for themselves.
"I got a text about an hour ago that someone drove into the McDonald's that me and my grandson come to everyday after school. And, I just had to come down here and see for myself how it possibly could have happened," said Dave Sims, a regular customer. "I'm just in shock."
