It seems to be one of those “only in New Jersey” things – people fishing for crabs while cars fly by at 80 mph.

News 12’s Brian Donohue visited Route 30 in Atlantic County to catch up with some crabbers who were vying for blue crabs in the water below the highway.

Many of them loved their time out there, despite the loud and potentially dangerous traffic.

“This is our favorite spot,” a father crabbing with his son told Donohue. “It gets a little loud, but as long as the little guy stays on the right side of the fence over there, we’re good.”

But for some first-timers, it was terrifying.

“I've driven down this road many times and wondered what it was like to be off the side of the road fishing. And now I know and it will be my last time doing it,” said Jay Scott.

Many of the folks who crab near bridges told Donohue that a bigger nuisance than the traffic noise is the amount of litter left by other crabbers and thrown from cars by drivers.
