A Brazilian court has blocked a bid that would prevent the reunion of Tinton Fall's David Goldman and his 9-year-old son Sean.
Despite the court's decision, the two will still have to wait to return to the U.S.
Goldman's ex-wife had taken Sean with her to Brazil in 2004, under the ruse she was going on vacation. She never returned from Brazil with Sean, eventually remarrying before dying during childbirth. Goldman has been fighting since then to regain custody of his son.
Sean's family in Brazil, including his stepfather who currently has custody of him, have been fighting Goldman to prevent the boy from leaving the country.
"It's very upsetting, because he's trapped and I cannot help him," says Goldman. "I just have to sit and watch and do the best I can and try to enjoy the precious moments that we have with each other ? he wants that too, but then he goes back after we leave and it is not a good place. And he's very sad."
