A couple is thanking state troopers for assisting in their son’s birth in the lobby of the Hope station last month.
Just after 4 a.m. on Jan. 21, the couple arrived at Hope barracks looking for immediate assistance.
“I made it to the parking lot. I was on all fours crawling trying to get to the building,” said mother Caitlin Post. “Thankfully, we got some help.”
State troopers Stephen Lentini and Ryan Kise immediately jumped into action and helped Post deliver her son, Cole, on the sidewalk in front of the police station.
“To have the support of people we knew were going to be calm, cool and collected in the face of this craziness, we are definitely very thankful,” she said.
The two state troopers say their training had prepared them to help the couple.
“When this scenario happened, we just reacted. Our training experience led us to handle it,” said Lentini.
The department gave the Post family a onesie that reads “future New Jersey state trooper” for their new son. The Post family plans to celebrate with the troopers on Cole’s birthday each year.
