A couple living in a senior citizen community in Ocean County was tied up and robbed by men posing as package delivery drivers.
Berkeley Township police say the crime happened on Zeeland Drive in the Silver Ridge Westerly Development Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. Two men wearing hoodies and gloves pretended to be dropping off a package and fired their way inside, according to police.
Authorities say the couple was tied up and held at gunpoint. The men apparently robbed the home and drove away in a dark-colored sedan.
Neighbors in the community say that they are on edge.
"It's scary. Now I have to lock my doors and windows," says one neighbor. "I have to watch out when someone rings the bell."
In the midst of the holiday season many New Jersey residents are expected to have packages delivered to their homes. Police say most delivery companies are dressed in identifying uniforms, driving an official vehicle and carrying legitimate identification cards. But police say that caution is always encouraged.
