There is nothing worse, nothing worse than cold rain. That's what we start your Wednesday off with, I'm sorry to say. Rain in the Tennessee valley finds a home over New Jersey in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
The rain will make roads slippery for the morning commute into work and school so allow extra time in the morning routine for some travel hiccups.
The cold wet weather will quickly move east of the area after 8 a.m., and clouds should linger for the rest of the day.
Now what's this about snow you mentioned in that headline of yours, Dave? I'm glad you asked. Let me explain. The majority of NJ will see rain - not snow - in the morning.
Timing is crucial for snow. Not all the meteorological components are in place for snow to linger and accumulate HOWEVER with temperatures hovering near freezing in northwest New Jersey and if the initial pop of rain can cool the column of air above (dynamic cooling) then it's possible some rain could turn to some snow.
Will it collect? Probably not. There is a chance, in neighborhoods with elevation, to get a coating to a little more on colder surfaces.
This certainly doesn't look like a very impactful wintery event but if you live along route 80 and west of route 287 you may want to get up a little earlier to see if you will have to spend some extra time cleaning off your car.
