? Governor Jon Corzine nominated Attorney General Stuart Rabner for the post of state Supreme Court chief justice Monday."I have no doubt that he will uphold the New Jersey Supreme Court's tradition of excellence and demonstrate all of the wisdom, integrity and fairness that the people of New Jersey have come to expect from him," Corzine said.Rabner could potentially serve for 25 years, seven years longer than the longest term on record for the state. The attorney general would take over for Chief Justice James Zazzali, who will retire at the mandatory age of 70. Rabner has been the New Jersey attorney general since September. He was previously Corzine?s chief counsel. "If confirmed by the Senate, I pledge to do everything I can to maintain the Supreme Court's tradition of excellence, which has earned the Court deep respect throughout our nation," Rabner said. Corzine also named Rabner?s first assistant, Anne Milgram, as the state?s next attorney general. The governor praised Milgram's experience, credentials and integrity. Senate President Richard Codey predicts smooth confirmations for both.
