Gov. James Corzine held a closed-door economic roundtable Monday with financial experts from both the private and public sector.
The meeting was closed to the media, but Corzine says the meeting?s goal was to come up with both short-term and long-term plans to help the state deal with the economy. According to Corzine, the economy is clearly declining and says the state is looking to help despite the federal government?s $700 billion bailout plan.
?What I can ensure is we?ll do everything we can to keep this economy as strong as possible,? the governor says.
Ideas batted around in the meeting included discussion of energy conservation programs and infrastructure investment to create jobs. A plan was also discussed that would see smaller state banks work together to provide larger loans for mid-sized businesses.
There is also talk of raising the state?s minimum wage.
