Doctors say Governor Jon Corzine is no longer in critical condition and will be moved out of intensive care.
According to doctors, Corzine will likely be in the hospital for at least a week longer.
Corzine?s chief of staff, Tom Shea, said Corzine probably would not resume his duties as governor as long as he is in the hospital. Shea said it was not yet clear whether Corzine would move from the hospital to an inpatient facility, his Hoboken apartment, the governor?s mansion or elsewhere.
Corzine was injured in an April 12 SUV crash on the Garden State Parkway. He was in critical condition for more than a week at Cooper University Hospital. Doctors removed his breathing tube Friday.
Richard Codey has taken over as acting governor while Corzine remains in the hospital.
AP wire reports contributed to this report.
