Fellow officers from across the state rallied Wednesday to condemn the suspension of two Cresskill cops.

Cresskill Police Chief Stephen Lillis says officers Brad Levitski and Matthew Banta violated procedure on Oct. 16 by responding to a crash two towns away in New Milford. A six-month suspension without pay has been recommended for the officers by Lillis.

Hundreds of officers marched outside Cresskill Borough Hall in protest of the punishment.

A child's life was in danger in the crash, and officers say it is common for towns to help each other out.

"When there's children involved, you're going to have every cop available," says Tenafly Officer Wayne Hall. "It's expected."

Levitski and Banta aren't only receiving support from the brothers in blue. Prosecutors claim the suspensions interfere with a murder investigation since a 10-year-old girl was killed in the crash.
