Thieves hunting copper burglarized a church in Newark, officials say.
The burglars broke into the Greater Refuge Missionary Baptist Church on South 18th Street at the end of last week, according to an official there.
The thieves ransacked the bathrooms, kitchens and radiators, taking copper pipes, says Augusta Zuber, who is one of the church's trustees.
Church officials say they believe that the thieves entered between Thursday and Friday. The building is not equipped with security cameras.
Most parishioners at the church are on fixed incomes, Zuber says, so the church doesn't raise much money through donations.
The congregants are without a place to worship for the time being, she says.
