A new candidate has entered the race to become the next mayor of Orange.
West Orange Police Officer Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. tossed his hat in the ring at a news conference Wednesday. Hawkins? platform includes a focus on city redevelopment.
?It is only 20 minutes from one of the most exciting cultural hubs in the world,? said Hawkins. ?With a train running straight through Orange for an easy commute, there?s no reason why it can?t be another Hoboken.?
Incumbent Mayor Mims Hackett and Councilman at Large Donald Page are also vying for the Democratic nomination. Hackett has announced his intent to run despite being indicted on bribery charges.
The mayoral election is set for May 13.
