Officials say that it could take several days to remove a crane that fell on a home and apartment building in New Brunswick Sunday night.

The crane collapsed onto the two buildings near the intersection of Hamilton Street and Easton Avenue around 7:45 p.m. The location is close to Rutgers University.

“The actual wrecking ball went through the back of the roof into the staircase…swung back to the first floor and is just lying there now,” says townhouse owner George Chedid.

No injuries were reported, according to officials.

New Brunswick officials say that the people who resided in the home and apartments are safe, and are working with the owners to be relocated until it is safe to return home.

Two adjacent properties were also evacuated as a precaution.

Hamilton Street will remain closed to traffic and pedestrians between Easton Avenue and Hardenberg Street until officials deem the area safe.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crane to fall over.

OSHA is investigating.
