The National Park Service is now banning commercial tour guides from taking tour groups to the top of the Statue of Liberty.
At Liberty State Park in Jersey City, many boats launch to take people to the Statue of Liberty, but in about two weeks, tour guides will no longer be able to take you to three locations.
Starting May 16, the National Park Service says it will ban commercial guided tours at the Statue of Liberty's pedestal, the Statue of Liberty Museum and the National Museum of Immigration at Ellis Island.

The Guides Association of New York City (GANYC) says, "New rules would cost tour guides $2 million in annual income and 100+ jobs, plus negatively impact the visitor experience and visitor safety at these two iconic venues. NPS and its partner Statue Cruises developed these new rules unilaterally without consulting any travel and tourism experts, including tour operators, tour guides, and tourism associations.”
The tour guides can do it outside, just not tour inside.
Roughly 250,000 passengers took commercial tours in 2018.
The Guides Association of New York City says the new rule will negatively impact the visitor experience.
