The Commack Motor Inn was sold last month for nearly $14 million.
The motel is known for its drive-up window, heart-shaped tubs, water beds and three-hour "short stay" option.
News 12 is told the new owner, a real estate investor named Mukesh Patel, plans to fix it up and make it more family-friendly - something that community members seem happy about.
"It's been the only landmark that we really have locally so it would be nice to see a family-owned business or something more family-oriented in the community," said Christina Lubrano, of Popi's Place.
Most residents News 12 spoke to agreed that the motel does not have a good reputation.
In 2016, the Commack Motor Inn was the scene of a murder-suicide. In 2003, detectives broke up an alleged escort service that was taking place at the motel.
Commack civil leaders tell News 12 that they are concerned and will be watching very closely what happens next for the Commack Motor Inn.
