The morning rain has moved on, and in its wake, cooler and windier weather will take center billing on the weather marquee.
Skies will continue to clear tonight as that Canadian airmass rushes in. The winds will provide an extra "snap" to how the air feels. While nighttime lows will fade to the low 40s tonight, it is going to get even colder tomorrow night into Friday morning. The northwest corner of the state could be waking up with our first sub-freezing start since April 18. Winter's chill is just waking up.
The weather for the next couple of days is sunny and breezy and will feel like fall. Daily highs are expected to be in the low to mid-60s. Nighttime lows will be in the 30s and 40s.
Our forecasting eyes are looking ahead to the weekend. Nothing is set in stone. Things can and will change, but as it stands now, a developing coastal storm is set to move up the East Coast. Clouds collect on Saturday. The winds start to pick up on Saturday, too, at the shore.
If the latest guidance were taken at face value, Sunday is going to be a wind-driven, crummy day for most of the state. But at the Shore, things would be much more impactful. Sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts to 45-55 mph could cause the power to flicker in spots.
The persistent and onshore wind will push an enormous amount of water onto the beaches. Coastal flooding could be significant. Large waves crashing on the beach will carry away tons of sand. Serious beach erosion is possible.
Again, this is something we are watching. We don't need to act on anything yet, but we should be ready to batten down the hatches for the weekend.
