The Cranford community is still reeling weeks after the deaths of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas.
Officials say the teens were killed when 17-year-old driver Vincent Battiloro intentionally ran them over with an SUV while they were riding an e-bike.
"I can’t even find more of a word than mortifying or devastating to hear that this has happened in our own town," Avery Estoque said. She attended high school with the two teens and was two years older.

Rabbi Paul Kerbel, from Temple Beth El Mekor Chayim in Cranford, called it a tight-knit community and an opportunity to comfort the broken-hearted.
"This was an attempt on our part just to bring some hope and bring everyone together to cry and to share our feelings," Rabbi Kerbel said.
Felicidad Echevarria also attended high school with the two teens.
"Maria was just overall a good person. I saw her as a little sister to me so that’s like really what hit me the hardest," Echevarria said.
The investigation into what exactly happened the evening of Sept. 29 is ongoing. Vincent Battiloro, 17, from Garwood, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
According to Brent Bramnick, the Niotis family attorney, the three didn’t know each other. However, there were several negative contacts from Battiloro toward Niotis, including two swatting incidents that police were aware of.
"There were prior interactions that were brought to law enforcement’s attention. The question is what was done? Why was he permitted to leave? What actions or any investigations took place after that?" Bramnick said.
Whether Battiloro will be charged as an adult has not been determined.
"No family, no one should have to go through this," Estoque said.
