A community memorial service will be held this week to remember two 17-year-old girls from Cranford who were killed in a hit-and-run crash last month.

The community memorial for Isabella Salas and Maria Niotis will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranford. All are welcome.

The teens were also remembered Monday night at the first Cranford School Board meeting since the crash.

The meeting was opened with a moment of silence in honor of Salas and Niotis.

“Tonight, we honor the memories of Isabella and Maria. They will never be forgotten,” said school board president Kurt Petschow.

“Together we'll continue to grieve, to honor Isabella and Maria by lifting each other up and carrying forward their light,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Rubin.

Authorities say 17-year-old Vincent Battiloro, of Garwood, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for allegedly running down teens and killing them.
