Students returned to Fort Lee High School on Tuesday, a day after a violent attack left a student critically injured.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office says a 16-year-old student is facing charges for allegedly stabbing another student multiple times in the school bathroom following some sort of altercation. The attack put the school on lockdown for a time.
Classes resumed as normal on Tuesday following a pre-planned delayed opening for freshman, sophomores and seniors for SAT testing.
Some students told News 12 that they were slightly nervous about returning to class but overall felt safe.
“Scary things that happened…I think everyone feels kind of safe since it all happened yesterday,” says sophomore Sammy Abdalla.
Parent Cindy Abdalla said she was confident with how the school officials handled the situation.
"The principal and the staff of the high school and district contacted us at all times, gave us updates. It made us feel safer, so I think it will be OK," she says.
There was an increased police presence at the school on Tuesday, and counselors were made available to any students or staff members who needed them.
