Clark Mayor Sal Bonnacorso says a student brought an unloaded handgun to Arthur L. Johnson High School.
The situation is safe and under control, according to the mayor.
The incident spurred a lockdown at the school. Bonnacorso says Union County police, the Union County Sheriff's Office, Clark police and authorities from the Union County Prosecutor all responded.
The mayor said everyone was safe as students were evacuated as a precaution and that parents can sign their children out.
