Gov. Chris Christie was among the dignitaries attending a groundbreaking ceremony today for the mixed-use "Teacher's Village" complex in Newark.

The project will feature new schools and housing for teachers. Officials hope it will help revitalize the downtown area and draw new teachers to its struggling schools.

Officials say the proposed complex will include more than 200 rental apartments for Newark teachers, 70,000-square-feet of retail space, three charter schools and a day care center. They hope the project will also bring hundreds of new jobs in the retail space.

The developer says it's being financed by public and private investments.
