Prosecutors have downgraded the charge filed against a cab driver accused of beating a passenger to death.
Juan Tacilla initially faced a reckless manslaughter count after Lucas Teletor's body was found early Sunday in the parking lot of a Ridgefield post office. But Bergen County prosecutors successfully sought to change the charge to aggravated assault due to undisclosed "new information" that came out during the ongoing investigation.
Tacilla's bail was also reduced from $500,000 to $50,000 during his initial court appearance Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors have said Tacilla was driving Teletor, a 26-year-old Palisades Park resident, and another person when Teletor and Tacilla "had an altercation." They say Tacilla pulled the cab over and allegedly struck Teletor numerous times while they were outside the cab.
