CBS fired Don Imus from his radio show Thursday amid protests over his comments about the Rutgers women?s basketball team.
Imus was initially given a two-week suspension, to start Monday, for his racially charged comments last week. However, outrage continued to grow and advertisers bolted from his program.
?There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society,? CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves said. ?That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision.?
On Wednesday, MSNBC dropped the simulcast of Imus? show. Meanwhile, the Rutgers women?s team is expected to meet privately with Imus next week.
