Police say a car believed stolen barreled off an embankment on New Year's Day, narrowly missing homes and people on the ground.
The car was reported stolen on New Year's Eve and tracked by Verona Police on the border of North Caldwell.
No serious injuries were reported but police arrested two people.
Verona police posted body camera video as they approached an idling car on Hilltop Drive believed to be stolen.
The video appears to show the driver take off as officers walk toward the vehicle.
It then shows the vehicle hits multiple cars and part of a home before crashing through two fences and over a retaining wall - before falling more than 20 feet.
RING camera video released by North Caldwell police captured the moment the vehicle landed upside down on car below, crushing it - and narrowly missing a man who was about to get in his own car in the next driveway.
Most of the neighborhood was still awake because it was just after midnight on New Year's Day.
"I had guests and they just left five minutes [earlier]. I was just cleaning up, and I
heard a crash, and I ran down out and then I saw that. And then I saw the cops and they were running, and then I slammed my door," Michele Citarella recalled.
"I went outside to look from my window and saw a cop with a gun [saying,] 'stand down! stand down! Don't move!' I was like, 'Oh my God! What's going on?' I saw that the car flipped, fell off road and apparently one of the people inside just ran away, and the other person was still in the car," said Maryam Fathy.
North Caldwell and Verona police were on the scene. They confirmed the driver tried to run but was quickly apprehended by police officers.
A female passenger was also located.
Both were taken to the hospital and taken into custody of North Caldwell police.
As of Tuesday night, police have not released the identities of those suspects or where they are from or how they ended up in North Caldwell.
