The head of Atlantic City's main casino workers union says Vincent Prieto should resign as speaker of the New Jersey Assembly because he wasn't able to deliver on an aid package for the struggling resort.
Bob McDevitt, president of Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union, says Prieto has been unable to muster votes in his own chamber for a bill he put forth to help Atlantic City.
A Prieto spokesman declined comment.
The Democrat-led Assembly and the Senate have been at odds for months over how best to help Atlantic City.
A bill from Senate President Steve Sweeney that's backed by Republican Gov. Chris Christie would let the state take over Atlantic City's finances in under six months. Prieto's would give the city up to two years to right itself.
