Police in Edison are trying to find a carjacker who abducted a woman at knifepoint and made off with thousands of dollars.
According to police, the attack started behind an office building on Oak Tree Road. They say a 61-year-old woman getting into her car was approached by a man who motioned at her to get out. When she did, police say the man pulled out a knife and pushed her back in.
Authorities say the man wanted her ATM card, but she didn?t have one. ?She did have a checkbook, so they drove to another location where she wrote out a check,? Detective Brian Parente said.
Investigators say the woman cashed two checks at two different banks, totaling $3,600.
The man let the woman go and allowed her to have her car back. She suffered cuts to her hands during a struggle.
Anyone with information is urged to call Edison detectives at (732) 248-7540.
