Councilman Peter Cammarano has declared victory in the Hoboken mayoral race, but Councilwoman Dawn Zimmer is not conceding the race.
Unofficial totals tabulated Friday show Cammarano up by 163 votes. Zimmer won the machine count Tuesday by 265 votes, but Cammarano was able to take the lead thanks to hand-counted provisional ballots and a batch of absentee ballots missed during the original count.
Zimmer says she will likely call for a recount. She has two weeks to decide if she will do so.
"I'm going to make sure this was a fair and honest election," she says. "Each campaign, when we do absentee ballots, we have to make sure that we follow the law."
Cammarano's camp says absentee voting was done according to law.
