? The U.S. Senate?s passage of a bill that calls for a chance at citizenship for illegal immigrants has polarized Bronx taxpayers and lawmakers.

The bill, which was approved Thursday, also calls for increased border security and a guest worker program. However, the House version, which triggered protests throughout New York and the country, advocates strong border enforcement, cracking down on employers who hire illegal immigrants and making those immigrants felons. Political analysts say both sides may reach a compromise before the November elections.

Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Bronx/Queens) voted against the House measure and feels immigrants will continue to come to America, regardless of strict legislation. Bronx resident and legal immigrant Mohammud Miah, who moved from Bangladesh, says immigrants should be able to pursue a better life like he did.
